Washington DC

This morning saw us heading off early for Washington DC. While only a day trip the wealth of sights and monuments certainly made the long journey worthwhile. We wallked for miles along the Mall stopping to admire The White House, The Lincoln and Washington Memorials, The Capitol Building as well as a number of War Memorials. It would be difficult to pick out which of the latter was the most moving but the sheer volume of names of soldiers who died in Vietnam was very sobering and definitely brought home the sheer carnage, waste and loss of War. It was especially heartbreaking when one considers that many of the young men who died were not much older than some of the students on the trip.

Another really impressive monument was the one dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr. which was surrounded by many of his famous quotes.

Students also managed to squeeze in a visit to a number of the Smithsonian Museums including the Air and Space museum. 

All in all we had another absolutely fantastic day.
