Exploring Limerick: A Journey Through History
Today, our exchange students immersed themselves in the rich history and vibrant atmosphere of Limerick City. The tour began in the city centre, where they experienced the lively streets, historic architecture, and the unique charm of this riverside city.
They visited the Treaty Stone, an iconic symbol of Limerick’s past. Here, they learned about the 1691 Treaty of Limerick, which ended the Williamite War in Ireland. Standing on the banks of the Shannon, students reflected on the significance of this historic agreement and its impact on Irish history.
They also explored the majestic King John’s Castle, a fortress that has stood for over 800 years. As they explored its towering walls, interactive exhibits, and breathtaking views of the city, the students gained a deeper appreciation for medieval Ireland and the stories that shaped the region.
From city streets to ancient strongholds, today’s tour was a perfect blend of history and culture, giving our exchange students a true taste of Limerick’s heritage.
