Amish community in Lancaster County

Saturday saw us going back in time to visit the Amish community in Lancaster County.

We started in Shady Maple where we experienced the Smorgasbord. Let’s just say no one went away hungry! After that we headed to Kitchen Kettle Village where we had a wander around the shops which specialise in traditional Amish crafts and foodstuffs. We also visited Santa who -luckily for our 14 sets of parents- told the students that Santa had come early to them and that their pile under the tree would be very small!

The afternoon however was the highlight. We visited an Amish Village where we had a really informative tour of a traditional Amish house from the 1840’s that has now been converted into a museum. The whole way of life and Community structures were explained in detail and we had the opportunity to ask questions at the end.
