Colaiste Chiarain students are looking to the sky! Space has proved an intriguing topic for our STEM students. Blackrock Castle Observatory in Cork have been running a number of events over recent months to promote Space education in collaboration with ESERO, the European Space Education Resource Office

Topics have included careers in space and students were given the opportunity to speak directly via video link with a variety of experts from astronauts to engineers. The students entered a competition at one of the events to win a Celestron telescope. The students had to come up with questions for the experts and the prize was won by second year STEM student Taha Nije who asked ‘Would it be easier to build a liveable habitat on the Moon or Mars?’.

The telescope will be put to good use in our new school building, where as well as watching the moon and stars from our second floor STEM lab, there are commanding views of Tory Hill and the surrounding countryside.
