The Guidance Department at Coláiste Chiaráin were delighted to welcome PO Kara Foley and LS Dylan Cullinane to our campus on Wednesday, January 18th,  to speak with our senior students on a career with the Naval Service.

The presentation afforded students the opportunity to hear first hand the wide range of opportunities for both personal development and career advancement offered through the Naval Service. Students were enthralled as the Naval Service representatives  spoke about their overseas tours, their duties patrolling the seas for illegal fishing, as well as their work in rescuing migrants attempting to flee war torn countries.  The enthusiam and passion with which Kara and Dylan spoke about their own careers with the Naval Service, highlighted the dynamic, challenging, but exciting career available to young people. Ms. Maher, Guidance Counsellor, was struck by the diverse routes into their current careers taken by Kara and Dylan, stating  “I think it was really beneficial to our students to hear how Kara and Dylan completely changed direction from careers in Accountancy and Professional Soccer to a career with the Navy. It is important for students to realise the wide range of options and pathways open to them after Leaving Certificate and to know that regardless of whether they pursue an apprenticeship, a university degree, a Further Education qualification or a career in the defence forces, there is always scope to diversify, pursue a different career or enhance their education further.”

A huge thank you from all at Coláiste Chiaráin to PO Kara Foley and LS Dylan Cullinane – we look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
