On Wednesday 25th of May, Coláiste Chiaráin welcomed the newly crowned NABF (North American Boxing Federation) Lightweight Boxing Champion, Lee Reeves, to award IABA (Irish Athletic Boxing Association) Startbox certificates to students. The IABA Startbox Initiative gives students the opportunity to engage with Ireland’s most celebrated Olympic sport for the first time. Coached by Cólaiste Chiaráin PE Teacher and Head Coach of The Hub Boxing Club in Limerick, Phil Maloney, ten students trained for at least twelve weeks to complete the silver stage of the Startbox Initiative. Each training session consisted of pad work, drilling techniques and low contact games. A further twenty-eight students completed at least another four weeks of training and pushed themselves to their limits to make the final phase of the gold programme, The Showcase Exhibitions, a truly unforgettable experience. All twenty-eight students participated in a controlled boxing match with other students in The Hub Boxing Club in Limerick City. All year groups, genders and abilities were well represented.Congratulations to all students on their hard work and fantastic achievements! Well done all…
